Leiston & District Philatelic Society
Society History
Leiston
and District Society-a very brief history. Founded in
1970, at least one founder member still attends meetings. Paid up members for
last season was 55 including several female members. In our programme we try to
include an evening’s display from one of our own members, in June 2010 Sheila Deeks displayed early local postal history, a subject that
prompted much enjoyable discussion among our members present. Our
competition evening usually attracts a varied assortment of themes, a
subject letter is drawn from the hat at the previous AGM. The members
present on the night judge the entries rating them their 1st, 2nd and 3rd favorites, the winner receives a cup for a year.
We have six display boards that hold ten display
sheets each so each half is sixty sheets with a total of 120 for the evening.
We break at half time for tea or coffee and if we are very lucky-biscuits!
